The VHF frequency range is from 30 mhz to 300 mhz, the civilian band is 118 to 137 mhz. The military primarily uses UHF for its communications but does utilize VHF in a different frequency range. The Tomcats UHF actually operated in both ranges part of its frequencies were below 300 mhz so would have been in the VHF range but was considered to be a UHF radio.
Civilian guard frequency is 121.5 mhz and the military used 243 mhz for their guard frequency which are for emergency use.
VHF channels are spaced 25 khz apart. References :
