What is the difference between UHF and VHF radio waves?

June 4th, 2010 | by admin |

Uses of both

Are they all the types of radio waves there are?
Why do TVs and FM radios ise radio waves with the shorter wavelength to carry their signal?

UHF is ultra high frequency
VHF is very high frequency

generally the higher the frequency the more information or data can be carried in the signal, TV is often UHF for it to carry stereo sound usually.

FM signals are usually in the MHz range because it allows for two channel stereo and a high quality sound

Nothing, they are arbitrary divisions of the electro magnetic spectrum. V = Very, U= Ultra.
TV and FM use higher frequencies to keep the range down, ie so the can’t be picked up too far from the transmitter, so you can have more different stations. (One reason, anyway).
