I live near a busy RAF base and like to watch the aircraft taking off and landing but is it possible and legal to listen in to air traffic control to hear when something is due to land or take off? I see many aircraft enthusiasts listening to scanners so ...

I got a hand held radio scanner, and I was wondering if I can get through airport security with it?
they are going to want you to put it in your checked baggage.
you are forbidden to use a scanning radio while in flight.

I want to buy a quality radio scanner, and am looking for a scanner that can detect all legally allowable frequencies. Anyone know what all the legally allowable frequencies are and perhaps a radio scanner that can pick up all of them or close to all of them? An answer ...
